I am writing with a cool breeze blowing in my window. It has been hot and sultry- steamy!- but last night, a huge storm came through, and now it feels like fall.
And soon, it will be fall! Are you ready? I usually fight hard to hang onto summer. But that is pretty silly, really.
Silly, because I love fall, too. Silly because God is the one who ordains the seasons and the passing of time. Silly because I can't do one thing about what is coming, or, for that matter, about what has passed.
What I can do, and you can too, is learn to live fully in the present. Fully and joyfully. Trusting God with every moment and situation. Trusting that He who loves me most is guiding me forward.
And how do I show that I trust him? I thank him. Often and always. Our thanks says to God, "You are so good to me! You know best! I am in your hands."
So let's thank God for all the good the summer has brought us. And thank him too, for all that is coming our way.
Have a great month!
Gary

News:
Wednesday Night Bible Study - Every Wednesday we will gather for a Bible discussion. What we will look at, will be determined by those who come... so COME! First meeting is September 5 at 6:30 PM. Open to everyone!
Rotary Gardens Trip - Women's trip to Janesville to the Rotary Gardens on Thursday, September 13. Please talk to Judy Murphy if you are interested in going. Admission cost is $6 or $7 depending on age.
Caledonia Community Wide Picnic/Potluck - Our Church will be working with the Village Board to host a Caledonia Village picnic on Saturday, September 22 at 5 PM. It will be held outside under our oak trees. We will furnish the main course and everyone is to bring a dish to pass. We need lots of help to make this happen! How can you help? Please talk to Gary or Mark Zellman and look for sign up sheets. We would like to get everyone to attend. Help us to love our neighbors!
Farewell Party for the Hitchcocks - If you have not heard, Walter, Cassie, and Oliver are moving to Michigan on October 1. We will miss them so much, but we are excited for their new adventure. Everyone is invited to come to Gary and Jennifer's home on Saturday, September 29 to say good-bye. Feel free to drop in anytime between 5 and 7 PM. We will have a light supper waiting for you! Please sign up on the sheet in the fellowship room, so we know how many to plan for.
Save Your Change - Have you been saving your change? Please bring it on Sunday, September 30. It will put in our benevolence fund. We are trying to do this quarterly, so your next chance will be the end of December.
Prayer Requests - On Sundays, we gather in prayer requests and pray for them. They are no longer being emailed out. However, if you have something come up during the week, that you really need prayer for, please contact Gary or Jennifer and we can email that out to our prayer team list. If you are not on that list and want to be, just let us know. Besides that, we ask that you continue to pray for the many needs of our congregation and community on a regular basis.
Devotional - Every Sunday night Gary sends out a devotional called Strong Spirits as part of his role at the YMCA. A few of you might receive it already. We are going to add everyone to the list to get it. However, if you would like to opt out, please let us know. They are often a recap of the Sunday morning sermon. A good reminder for the week!
Looking Ahead:
Socktober - We will be collecting new pairs of adult socks from October 7-21 to donate to those in need. We will finish with a Socktoberfest Potluck on Sunday, October 21 after church. Start hunting for deals on socks now. Please save and bring them in October. We will also be taking out flyers in the village to get them involved in the collection as well. We could use help taking the flyers around and then picking up the socks later. Sisters in Spirit and Service are organizing this event.
Camping Trip... The men will take their annual camping trip to Devil's Lake October 11-14. Consider joining us, guys. We always have a blast!
