Most of us like longer days and more daylight. I know I do!
That is why summer trumps winter for almost all of us. That and about a bazillion fun things you can do with all that light and warmth.
But if you are God, it is different: "...even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the the day, for darkness is as light to you." (Psalm 139:12). He lives in unapproachable light, and covers himself with darkness. He himself is the light, and invites us, filled with him, to go be the light of the world.
So, right now, we are sort of waiting for summer. Trying to get passed all of this wonderful rain. Waiting for the clouds to part. And they will. They always do. And then the glorious summer can begin.
But we know that even wonder-full summer has it's dark moments. As do our lives. Not everything is always sunny and bright. We have struggles, we have storms.
But be of good cheer! God is right in the middle of the darkness! He is never far away. Never doubt in the darkness what you have seen in the light. And never forget in the light Him who is the source of it.
Have a great month!
Gary

Other News:
Treasure Hunt and Pirate Potluck - Plan on staying for an all church potluck and treasure hunt on Sunday June 11. We will be having a treasure sale and you can hunt for the perfect treasure for your home! We are asking for donations of really good quality items. They can be new, old but nice, antiques or perhaps vintage items. They can be put in the pie room before June 8 or anywhere in the basement after June 8. We are asking for no more than 10 items per donation. Please price them.
Since we are having a treasure hunt, why not have a pirate theme potluck! Bring your favorite foods that pirates might want to eat. Pinterest is full of ideas! Bring a dish or two to share. Dress up for the occasion if you want. Profits from sale will go to Sisters in Spirit and Service. Any items left will be for sale on June 18 as well. Final leftovers will be sent to Rockford Rescue Mission Resale Shop.
Progressive Farm Dinner - Our second annual Progressive Farm Dinner will be held on Sunday July 9. Everyone is invited. Get it on your calendar now. Sign up sheet will soon be in the fellowship room. If you are coming, please sign up to bring something. We will start at 3 PM at Bruce and Ginny's for appetizers. We will then move on to salad at Curt and Cynthia's, main course at Dave and Terry's, and dessert at Tim and Judy's. Car pooling in encouraged. Meet at the church at 2:40 if you want to carpool.
Women's Group - We have a new women's group! We are embracing our past, but moving ahead into the future. We have chosen to be called Sisters in Spirit and Service. Our new mission statement is "Following Christ's example we strive to love, serve, and encourage one another". One another is in the broad example that Christ uses, in other words - Everyone!
Our first project was the little dresses for Africa. We hope all women will find some way to participate at some time in the year. We have an all church Treasure Hunt and Pirate Potluck planned for Sunday June 11 after worship. See details above. If you would like to help, talk to Judy Murphy.
Thanks - Thanks to everyone who helped with Walter and Cassie's wedding. It was much appreciated. Also thanks to all who helped in some way with the Little Dresses for Africa. We were able to send 35 dresses!
Baptisms - If you are interested in being baptized later this summer, please talk to Gary.
Lost - Gary is missing a small rake from clean up day. If you helped that day, could you please check to see if it ended up with your tools? Thanks.
