July 2016 at Caledonia Congregational Church

Friends-
Today, I needed to replace the throttle cable on my lawn mower.

While I was working on it, my neighbor came over to chat.  At one point, I needed to ask his help, to tighten up a couple of nuts.  I made the comment, "I wish God had given us a third hand for such times." Then I realized, he didn't give us a third hand, because he wants us to learn to work together, to ask for help, and to help each other out.  To build community.  To demonstrate love.

My mower is working, thanks to his help.  And I have re-learned a valuable lesson.  God wants us to be inter-dependent with each other.  He wants us to realize how dependent we are on him. And he wants us to celebrate the independence that he won for us on the cross, freedom from guilt, shame, fear, death, and a whole host of other ills.

As we as a nation celebrate our independence day, let's not forget that true freedom comes from knowing Jesus.  "I am the way, the truth and the life." (John 14:6)  "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free."  (John 8:32)

Have a great month!
Gary

Other News
Progressive Farm Dinner - Sunday, July 10 is your chance to visit 4 different members homes/farms.  Meet at the church at 3:45 PM to carpool.  Appetizers are at Murphy's, salads are at Walker's, main dish at Moore's, and dessert/bonfire is at Johnson's.

Everyone who comes must sign up to help provide food.  Sign up sheet is in the fellowship room.  Please bring lawn chairs.  Also, Ginny suggests jackets and your own beverage for the bonfire.  Drinks will be provided for the 4 courses. Great time to connect with your church family!

Well Update - Big news on our plans to raise money for another well!  We have a unique event planned for August 4 for a fundraiser.  In conjunction with Savino's Brick Oven, we will be hosting a Woodfire Pizza Buffet. This will be held outside under the oaks from 5-8 PM.  Savinos will be baking the pizza and providing salad and beverages. This is an all you care to eat event.  We will be furnishing homemade  fruit pies for the dessert. We would like to do a bake sale also.  The tickets will be $15 per person. Ages 6 and under are free.  For each ticket sold, we will get $7.50 and then World Vision will match that!  We will need your help in promoting, selling tickets, baking pies, baking baked goods, and general help to make it a success.  The deadline for reservations or tickets is Monday August 1.  This could be a really fun event for us and for the village.  Start planning now to get involved.

Money Jars - Keep collecting your coins in a jar.  We will collect them in August.  Again these funds will be matched.

Congratulations to Jennah Loewecke who was married on June 25 to John Mariani.  Also congratulations to Eli Walker and Jin Komerska for their high school graduations.

Looking Ahead:
All You Care to Eat Pizza Dinner- Thursday, August 4 - fundraiser for the well project.

Baptisms and New Members - Sunday August 21 - If you are interested in being baptized or becoming a church member talk to Gary. Possible picnic afterwards.  Several options for baptism will be available.
