For a couple of reasons. One, we have had a woodchuck in our neighborhood for a long time, even living under our deck for a while. I had to chase him out. But he is fat, furry, and kind of adorable. I like that he is a neighbor, just not under my deck.
Secondly, this furry rodent is supposed to be a prognosticator of the coming of spring. I can find no evidence that he has this particular capacity. But it is a sort of fun event in the middle of winter to begin to think about spring. Sort of comforting to remember that soon it will be warm again.
Now, I believe we are challenged to live fully in this moment, whatever it is. But we are also encouraged to look forward with faith to the things God has promised us: answered prayers, fulfillment of promises, heaven, the return of Jesus, and a life with him forever. We have no prognosticator for when those things will become reality. That's where faith comes in. We trust that our loving Father is working it all out in his own time and way.
I'm sorry if you don't have a woodchuck living near you. They are very cute. But I'm glad that all of us can rest comfortably, even in dire situations, knowing that God's promises are all true and will be fulfilled. And that is even better than spring!
Have a great month!
Gary

Other news...
Communion Sunday - Every first Sunday we celebrate communion. If attending via Zoom, please have your own elements ready to participate.
Prayer requests - For Jennifer who is recovering from COVID, as is my mom. And that I will not get it. No other specific requests this month, but we all know people and situations in our congregation and out of it that need prayer. Please do! And if you have specific requests, let us know... God longs to answer the prayers of his children.
Welcoming- Let's remember to be welcoming to any who come to join us on a Sunday morning, especially new folks.
It looks like a short month with not a lot going on, doesn't it? But we know God can and does do surprising things all of the time... maybe through you! Prepare to be surprised!!
